St. Louis is the home of many accomplished companies. Including Anheuser-Busch Breweries, A.G. Edwards, Stifel Nicolaus, Edward Jones, Scottrade, Solutia, Monsanto, and is even the home of Energizer the battery maker. The local suburbs are also home to several chemical and pharecutical companies like Express Script’s. It is also home to Rent-A-Car and Hardee’s.
St. Louis has several large manufacturing plants as well. There are two Daimler Chrysler plants in Fenton that make pickups trucks and minivans, as well as a General Motors plant in Wentzville. Boeing manufactures the F/A 18 Super Hornet and LDAM Smart Bombs, while Purina, Nestle, and Tyco International are alos in residence.
St. Louis has a booming medical business as well. Mostly dominated by BJC Healthcare which runs thirteen hospitals in the city and elsewhere. BJC has a great partner in the Washington University School of Medicine. A major centre for medical research and doctors. Other companies include SSM Health Care, St. John's Mercy, and the Tenet Healthcare Corporation chain.
Most of the local banks have been bought out by larger out of town banks and this has led to an influx of newly formed banks headquartering in St. Louis. The city still retains a federal reserve however.
